Smart Home: Miele is expanding voice assistants / settings for recipes will be transmitted from the app directly to the Dialog oven

New network applications make Miele domestic appliances easier and more convenient to use than ever before. So the company has further extended appliance control by means of voice assistant with the result that Amazon's Alexa has learnt a lot about cooking and washing since its market launch five months ago. The Dialog oven is now becoming even smarter with a new feature: all preparation parameters for automatic programmes go directly from the app to the appliance, so the user needs only to prepare the ingredients and give the start command. 

“Alexa, ask Miele, how long the washing machine still has to run.” – What started with a dozen questions and answers a few months ago, is now increasingly assuming the scope of a “WikiMiele”. So the voice assistant doesn't only react to status queries, it also understands control commands (“Alexa, tell Miele to switch the oven off”). The repertoire also includes explanations of particular functions of Miele appliances such as Moisture plus for the oven or TwinDos for the washing machine.

The voice assistant also gives help with the preparation of ingredients (“Alexa, ask Miele how long to cook broccoli”). In the meantime nearly all Miele product groups, from the washing machine to the refrigerator can be connected to the Amazon Voice Service. Miele is continuously expanding the knowledge range of the voice assistant and also offering the service in more countries in the future. Following the launch of the application with Amazon in Germany and Austria in December 2017, the introduction in the USA, Canada and Great Britain is scheduled from spring 2018.

This appliance opens up previously unknown possibilities in the preparation of food and guarantees excellent results in the easiest ways and in the shortest of times. The recipe feature, which is part of the Miele@mobile app, proves itself to be the ideal platform for experimenting and trying out new ideas. Firstly, new recipes for the Dialog oven are continuously being developed in the company's test kitchens and added to the database, and, secondly, all preparation parameters can be transmitted from the app directly to the appliance. In addition to creativity and inspiration, the transfer from app to appliance guarantees more reliable results, as incorrect settings cannot be accidentally selected.
